Returning
to Gijon a year later, we presented a show sponsored by Hydro Cantabrico,
the local power utility. On this occasion half the building was completely
blacked out with every surface black, black carpet on the floor, the ceiling
painted black and the walls draped in thick black curtains. Visitors passed
through a series of increasingly darkened spaces before arriving at the
installation of kinetic light sculptures. The show was very popular with
crowds lining up outside waiting to be allowed in.
The
light sculptures were suspended from the ceiling at a height of 6 metres.
You can see the artist taking a look at the installation from close up
in some of these images. Sadly the crowds were so big that the public
had to watch the installation from behind a handrail.
